Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris, France

2025

Photographed in near darkness, the side chapel at the Église Saint-Germain reveals a softer, more contemplative side of one of Paris’s oldest churches. The rough stone, narrow window, and that stark, modern cross—everything here pulls inward. The fresco above the arch dates back to the 11th century. It survived the French Revolution because it was covered by wooden panels in the 17th century. While much of the church’s decoration was destroyed during the Revolution, this part remained hidden—and was only uncovered in the 1970s
