Forêt de Marly has a rich history tied to French royalty, particularly under Louis XIV, who used it as an exclusive hunting ground for the court. Designed as an extension of the Château de Marly, the forest was carefully shaped with ornamental gardens, geometric clearings, and meticulously arranged pathways to reflect the grandeur of 17th-century French landscape design. Inspired by the formal style of André Le Nôtre, who designed the gardens of Versailles, parts of the forest featured sculpted vistas, symmetrical avenues, and carefully placed water features to enhance the hunting experience. Though much of the original landscaping has faded, remnants of manicured glades, stone basins, and hidden fountains still hint at its royal past. The forest was once dotted with pavilions, ornamental pools, and structured green spaces, creating an elegant balance between controlled design and natural wilderness. Today, traces of these royal embellishments remain, blending seamlessly with the untamed woodland that has reclaimed much of the area. I captured Fôret #3 in 2025.
